The United Way's Community Fund

We are proud to support the Rochester United Way in contributing to their Community Fund and participating in their “Dear Rochester” Campaign. You do not have to donate to submit your own “Dear Rochester” letter, which is an effort for each of us to share a love letter to Rochester, a wish for our community, or a challenge to overcome. The hope is that it will show that we can love Rochester while recognizing that many people who live here need our collective support.

Willow Domestic Violence Shelter

Messner Flooring was proud to lead a community effort to makeover the Willow Domestic Violence Shelter. With local designer Dani Polidor of Suite Artistry and over two-dozen friends and business associates, Messner Flooring turned a $2,000 prize from the International Design Guild’s “Design for a Difference” contest into $20,000 for the makeover of the shelter’s common areas.

Dani Polidor entered the competition and won a $2,000 regional prize to make over the shelter’s family lounge. When Peter and Greg Messner walked through the shelter to see the space, they knew immediately that they were not going to stop at one room. The Messners led the shelter renovation with a commitment to install 4500 square-feet of new flooring. Together with Dani, they recruited donors of goods, services, and monetary support to upgrade nearly all the common areas of the shelter with flooring, furniture, AV, art, and window treatments.

Willow Domestic Violence Shelter CEO Jaime Saunders reflected on the project after its completion. “I went to the shelter floor and slowly walked the halls taking it all in….amazing.” Saunders recalled, “people were on the new furniture watching TV and quietly reading. The space is so much more professional and calming. It is nothing short of transformative.”
